THE STORY: Seven of the most legendary thieves are hired by a London crime lord to pull off a heist, but they are betrayed by one of their own and all seven die. Not realizing they are dead, the thieves find themselves trapped in Limbo - a single room from which there appears to be no escape. The only things occupying the room beside themselves is a table with a goblet in the center, surrounded by seven different colored candles, and a mysterious female entity who dances along the walls of the room. As they begin to unravel the mystery of their circumstance, an angelic guide appears to them and explains that their only escape from the room is to reveal the identity of the one who betrayed them. As they begin the process of elimination, they discover the bonds that connect them, the karma that trapped in them in the room, and the key to moving on to their next incarnations. Originally conceived, written and shot as a short film in 1998, "Petty Thieves" is an esoteric exploration of the nature of evil, love and ultimately the power of redemption. It introduces the "Other-earth Series" - a world populated by the bizarre, glamorous and truly depraved. Expanded by Matthew Van Vlack into a future feature film project, the feature version of "Petty Thieves" reveals the detailed history of the thieves and events that lead up to the death of the seven thieves, and further explores the themes of the short film. Screenplay by Matthew Van Vlack.
