THE STORY:

Melanie "Mel" Arlen, a hypnotherapist, runs afoul of the police when she becomes obsessed with solving the murder of her client Gene Dearborn. Haunted by the memory of her own sister Sheila's murder, Mel believes Gene was murdered because she witnessed a political assassination, only to learn later that Gene might have the been the victim of the same serial killer as Sheila.

Her obsession erodes Mel's relationship with her fiancé Charles Rollings, and Charles turns to Mel's professional rival Celia Webb for comfort. And as Mel's personal and professional relationships crumble, Mel finds that her only ally is Gene's best friend Thomas Hurley. But the deeper Mel digs into the murder she becomes blind to the real architect of both Gene and Sheila's deaths. But time is running out for Mel as a web of deceit is woven around her, putting her in line to be the killer's next victim.
