Physically disabled painter Art Hackett has suffered with chronic pain and manic behavior his entire life. Forced to walk with a cane and take Vicodin, Art's pain has increased to the point where Art's antics in his self-proclaimed "war against the neo-cons" is more than his younger brother Adam, a successful rock musician, can handle. Finally, Adam threatens to kick Art out of their apartment unless Art gets back on his psych-meds. To make matters worse, the ghost of Art and Adam's father Herman haunts Art. Continually ridiculing Art's talent and fueling his mania, Art's only sanctuary is a strip joint called "Valentine's" where his best friend Ramona bartends. It's also where Callie Kalasky, an ex-stripper and Art's most recent love interest, sings and performs.

In order to combat Herman, Art's mind creates a muse, who looks exactly like Callie, who loves and encourages Art. The muse reveals a plan to Art that will keep Adam from kicking him out. She tells Art that is the kind of singer Adam has been struggling to find for his newest band's project. But when Art approaches Callie about the job, without telling Adam, Callie's psychotic boyfriend/manager Lenny Marko threatens to kill Art. Art ignores Lenny's threats and pursues his plan. As Callie gets closer to Art both their hearts open up to one another. However, Lenny's control over Callie and his mob connections begin to squeeze down on Art, and before long not only Art and Callie, but Adam and everyone connected to the Hackett brothers put in danger.

"Art Imitating Life " combines drama, comedy, romance and action to tell the story of how the terrible afflictions of chronic pain and disability not only damage the life of one artist but also the people who love him.

Please note: Posting to the internet can make film appear darker based on the monitor of your computer than it does when seen on film or DVD.

Again, I want to thank everyone in the cast and crew who so generously gave their time and talent to putting this trailer together. We have gotten so much positive feedback. And a big thanks to your Assoc. Prod. David Gold for finding us our editor John Carrick. John has done a fantastic job in such a short amount of time. We are always glad to welcome a new member to the Hill, and there is no doubt that John is one of us!

APRIL 5, 2007 - The two-minute trailer is now posted online! We have uploaded it to both Ifilm and YouTube. Please check it out and share your comments with us in the comment sections on the websites. Again, we want to thank everyone involved for helping us putting this trailer together.

Also, we are more than proud to annouce that the producer of the KynnysKINO6 Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland who are dedicated to celebrating disability in film have agreed to premiere the two-minute trailer at this year's festival later in the month.

APRIL 2, 2007 - Haylee and I are proud to announce that we have shot and edited a trailer for "Art Imitating Life." We currently have a two-minute version, which Haylee will be posting on several websites tomorrow and a forthcoming longer trailer incorporating more of the great footage we shot on March 22.

There are so many people to thank for helping us to get the trailer shot, and I want to acknowledge each and every person:

From our talented cast: Ric Borelli, Juliana Dever and Casey Irvine who played the three primary characters featured. Also, we want to thank Paul Kapellas who on very short notice stepped up to be the heavy Lenny Marko and aced the part! Finally, Micaal Stevens, our biggest cheerleader, who called in a few friends: Jeff Torres, Cooper Stevens and Marc De'Antone to be our mobsters.

Fom our intrepid crew: Adam Tash, our D.P., came with camera in hand and sound wizard Burt Gregory and gaffer David Chung in tow to shoot the trailer and secure what will be the look of our feature. David Gold stepped up and found us a fantastic editor John Carrick to help us cut the trailer.

Co-producer Laura Romany made sure all were fed and the set was a warm and comfortable place for everyone who gave their time and energy for nothing other than love of this project. Laura, you are the best partner!

Additionally, there are other folks we need to thank for making this trailer happen: Bernie Burns who donated all the lighting equipment. Our family and friends who helped us round out the financing we needed to get the props and expendables to help turn a single apartment and garage into the mulitple locations from the script, as well as the love and support they gave so that we could get this incredible trailer turned around in less than four days!

As soon as we have the trailer posted, I will put the links here on our website. We hope everyone enjoys it!

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 - I am proud to announce that our lead actress Juliana Dever ("Callie Kalasky") was featured in an article titled "From Jehovah's Witness to Hollywood Actress" that appeared in the September 11, 2006 edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I am also honored to have been a part of the article and to have "Art Imitating Life" as the lead-in. With the generous permission of the author Tim Townsend, we've been allowed to post the link to the on-line article. I encourage everyone to read it so they can find out what an amazing journey Juliana has had and what she's had to overcome in her remarkable life.

"FROM JEHOVAH'S WITNESS TO HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS"
by Tim Townsend
for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I had tremendous fun speaking with Tim, and I want to personally thank Tim for his well-written article as well as Juliana for inviting me to be part of it.

AUGUST 22, 2006 - We have a slightly new look to our project page, and I'd like to say it's 'cause I was struck in the middle of the night with great inspiration. Not the case. Necessity once again proves to be the mother of...blah, blah, blah. Last night the page...well, it disappeared! Don't know where it went. Looked for it. Nowhere to be found. So, I spent some time reconstructing it. However, as a result, with all the recent changes to cast and crew, it proved a good thing. And isn't that the key to life? Lemons to lemonade? And about a half-dozen other cliches. Thanks goes out to our intrepid website architect Scott Pierce of Broadhouse for helping this neophyte of the information highway. Sadly, though, all previous project news entries have evaporated. I never backed them up...my big bad. Won't happen again.

One thing to announce is the rise of our IMDB page! The link is: http://imdb.com/title/tt0833581/. It is, as is this website, an ever changing thing.
